NEW YORK CITY—Spartacist banner at March 18 antiwar demo, part of nationwide protests that weekend called by the ANSWER, United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ), World Can’t Wait (WCW) and Troops Out Now (TONC) coalitions. From UFPJ and TONC’s appeals that Congress stop war funding to WCW’s call to “drive out the Bush regime” and ANSWER’s plea that Washington “fund people’s needs, not the war machine,” the reformist left allies with the Democratic Party of U.S. imperialism and preaches that the blood-soaked capitalist system can be pressured to be more “humane.” The Spartacist League and Spartacus Youth Clubs intervened into the protests with our Marxist propaganda, combatting illusions in the reformability of the “democratic” capitalist state and raising the call for a workers party that fights “in the belly of the beast” for the overthrow of the imperialist order through socialist revolution.
