Solidarity with anti-blacklisting campaigner George Tapp
We reprint below a 25 May letter sent by the Partisan Defence Committee to the Salford TUC in response to an appeal for anti-blacklisting campaigner George Tapp. The Partisan Defence Committee is a class-struggle, non-sectarian legal and social defence organisation associated with the Spartacist League.
Dear Comrades,
The enclosed is a donation to the fund for George Tapp, who was so brutally injured by a hit-and-run driver in what appears to have been a deliberate assault in the course of the anti-blacklisting protest last week against the construction firm BAM at Manchester City Football Club.
We solidarise with the Blacklist Support Group and Unite in the fight to expose the continuing outrage of blacklisting, such as on the Crossrail project in London, run by a joint venture which includes BAM. It’s hardly a coincidence that BAM appears on the list of 44 companies that were paying members of the Consulting Association, the blacklisting “service” which was shut down in 2009.
The vicious attack on George Tapp should be a call to arms for the trade union movement to act as one in the struggle against the construction bosses who have always raked in stupendous profits at the expense of the livelihoods, health and safety of building workers.
We hope the enclosed helps in George’s recovery.
