Fascists, Harper and Ukraine
(Letter)
30 May 2015
Dear Spartacist Canada,
Vladimir Katriuk, the number two name on Simon Wiesenthal Center’s list of Nazi war criminals, has died. He escaped prosecution in no small part due to the protection offered him by Stephen Harper and the Canadian capitalists. When requested by the Russian government to support a criminal case against Katriuk, Harper and company ignored it and denounced Russia for the annexation of Crimea—a legitimate act of self-determination by the Russian majority region.
The protection of this fascist scum is not all that shocking. Harper has backed the fascist infested Kiev regime to the hilt and the Canadian bourgeoisie has historically protected Nazis and fascists who fled Europe. As the saying goes, tell me who your friends are....
CGs,
Jonah
SC replies:
We thank Jonah for his letter. We would add that the NDP and Liberals sing in perfect harmony with Harper’s support to the Ukrainian government. In the service of this policy, the Tories have showered money and equipment on the Ukrainian military, whose shock troops are fascist-dominated volunteer units, and have sent 200 Canadian troops to prop up the Kiev regime.
Canada is indeed notorious for protecting fascists. After World War II, the government gave safe haven to thousands of the very war criminals who had carried out the Holocaust. Among them were 1,000 to 2,000 butchers of the infamous Waffen SS Ukrainian Galicia Division, who were welcomed in the service of the Cold War drive to restore capitalism in the Soviet Union. For more, we refer our readers to our article, “Deschênes Commission Cover-up: Canada Protects Nazi Butchers” (SC No. 68, June 1987).
